Taste of Turmeric
With the weather slowly becoming colder, don’t overlook the Turmeric spice that's sitting at the back of your cupboard. Turmeric helps the body naturally cleanse the respiratory tract, it has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities. It can seriously relieve the impact of the cold and flu. Keep an eye out for Friday’s recipe for a Turmeric inspired dish.
If you’re looking for a way to incorporate Turmeric into your diet, here’s an easy switch to your go-to chicken recipe.
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium thinly sliced yellow onion
2 tablespoon turmeric powder
1 crank of Whole Black Peppercorn
1/2 teaspoon Atlantic Sea Salt
1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1/2 cup dry white wine
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
Cooked basmati or jasmine rice, for serving
Chopped fresh cilantro leaves and tender stems, for garnish
Instructions: Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, turmeric, pepper, and salt. Cook and stir occasionally for about 5 minutes. Next place the chicken on a large plate, season with salt and turmeric. Next push the onions to the outside edge of the pan and place the chicken in the middle of the pan. Continue to cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Next flip the chicken and cook for 2 more minutes. Then pour in the wine and cook for 1 minute until you pour the cream and the broth and stir gently. Finally reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and cook until the chicken is tender and cooked through. Set over rice and garnish with some cilantro.
